Machining of Ferro-Titanit®

Our Ferro-Titanit® machinable and hardenable carbide-alloyed materials are generally supplied as semi-finished products in soft-annealed condition.

Despite a titanium carbide content of roughly 45% by volume and an annealed hardness of 48 – 53 HRC, this material can be processed by the familiar machining methods, such as turning, planing, milling, sawing and drilling, in accordance with the guidelines given below. As a result, any tool shop has the possibility of using customary steel-machining equipment to machine tools and other parts exposed to wear.

Compared to steel, the machining of Ferro-Titanit® necessitates much slower cutting speeds. The material must be machined dry.
